Soberlingo
Free addiction recovery companion

Quit drinking, using, betting or smoking, one day at a time.

A friendly daily companion for staying sober. Watch your days add up, check in with yourself, learn a skill in five minutes, and keep the people who care about you close.

No email needed to start. Private by design: your check-ins and journal are only ever yours.

How it works

  1. 1

    Pick what you're cutting out

Alcohol, drugs, betting, smoking or something else, and the day your count starts. No email needed.

  2. 2

Check in and learn a skill

Ten seconds to say how you feel, and a five-minute lesson or exercise for the day.

  3. 3

    Bring your people along

Invite people you trust to cheer you on. They see your day count, never your check-ins or journal.

What's inside

A counter worth protecting

See every day you've added, the money you've kept, and the next milestone coming up. Sunny grows with you.

Five-minute lessons

Urge surfing, HALT, saying no, chasing losses, blocking betting apps, getting through a slip, and faith and hope if you'd like. Practical skills you can use tonight.

Your support circle

Invite people you trust with a private link. Send each other cheers, and let them know when you need a hand.

Daily check-ins

Ten seconds to notice how you feel. Your mood history stays private, even from your circle.

Slips don't erase you

If you slip, restart the counter with kindness. Your skills, achievements and best run all stay.

Help when it's hard

Breathing, grounding and prayer, and free South African helplines, one tap away from every screen.

Who's behind this

I'm Haiko Nieuwoudt, an independent developer in South Africa, and addiction runs through my own family. We lost someone we love to it, who left behind some beautiful children, and we very nearly lost another. That's why Soberlingo exists.

I especially hate betting. It's built to exploit, it takes the most from the people who have the least, and it sends that money out of the country. It only ever takes away from people's lives. It never adds anything.

Soberlingo isn't owned by a clinic, a rehab or an app company. It's free, it will stay free, and it's built to be kind on the hard days as well as the good ones.

Questions people ask

Is it really free?

Yes. There's nothing to buy, no paid version and no ads.

Is it anonymous? Do I need an email?

You don't need an email, a phone number or your real name to start. Adding an email later is optional, and only so you can sign in on another phone.

Who can see my check-ins and journal?

Only you. People in your support circle see your first name, your day count and the cheers you send each other, and that you could use encouragement if you tell them. Your moods, journal and reason why stay private.

Is this a replacement for treatment?

No. Soberlingo is a self-help companion for the days in between. If you may be dependent on alcohol or some drugs, talk to a doctor or clinic before stopping. If you need help now, the free lines below are open.

What if I slip?

Then you restart your counter, kindly. Your lessons, achievements, XP and best run all stay, and Sunny perks right back up. Many people slip on the way to lasting change.

Need help right now?

Free South African lines. You don't need an account, and you don't need to have it all figured out to call.
